1. I've actually only recently started seriously drawing again. I always used to draw when I was in elementary, but for some reason I just...stopped...for a few years. It was only until the summer before my sophomore year that I kicked myself back into gear, with some encouragement from my dad. In fact, last year (junior year) was the first time I took actual art classes in school since...the sixth grade. Which is kind of sad.
2. My style is almost strictly anime. I've tried to get out of it, but it's been engrained in me since I was like, ten, before I even knew what anime was. So...yeah. Still trying. Sort of. My latest obsession is Avatar: The Last Airbender, but even that is pretty anime...*fails*
3. I'm sort of stuck between traditional and digital art right now. I love sketching, and Prismacolor is my best friend...but at the same time, I love the challenge of drawing on the computer, even though it takes so much longer. It looks much more refined digitally, but I love blending with color pencils. Plus, sometimes I like my drawings to have that sketchy look to them. Anyways, you get the point.
4. I'm mostly self-taught when it comes to art. I mostly have Deviantart to thank, since there are so many helpful tutorials and references to go off of. I'm most proud of how far I've come with body composition; my proportions were absolutely horrible a couple years back. My tablet skills are improving as well, so yay~
5. My weakest point in digital art is probably color palettes. I also have a hard time with light source and shading...and I HATE SHADING HAIR. Guh. Backgrounds are slowly getting better, though. Very slowly. My preferred style is soft-CG, but I'm trying out cel-shading right now and it's going pretty well.
6. I love experimenting with poses...even though it is nearly impossible for me to draw sometimes. In fact, I had to model in a mirror in order to get a good reference for my character in my Legend of the Other Benders piece. It's frustrating, but when I get it right, it's the best feeling in the world.
7. I've only recently started using guide lines when I draw people. That's probably the reason why my proportions were so bad before - I basically used to go with the flow and draw from the head down. Still, there are times when I draw better without the guide lines, since I'm so used to it. Guide lines really help, though. Everyone should use them.
8. Our high school is relatively small - only around 500 people. So basically, I'm one of the very few "artists" of the school, and I'm widely known for it, too. It kind of bothers me, because I honestly don't think I'm that great of an artist compared to other people out there (especially here on dA). Plus, it kind of sucks when you're in an art class and everyone flocks around you and starts saying stuff like "OMG THAT IS SOOOOO NICE!!!" or the more resentful "I HATE YOU! WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BE SO GOOD AT THIS!!!" and "WHY ARE YOU EVEN IN THIS CLASS?!" I try to stay low-key because of it.
9. I can't sketch. Well, bad-sketch. Seriously - I don't like keeping my mistakes. My sketchbook is nearly empty. My drawings either come out looking the way I want it to look, or it gets ripped out and thrown away. It's a really nasty habit that I'm trying to break.
10. I'm the only person in my school who draws on the computer. I have yet to find a person on this entire island of Maui who owns a tablet. Most people here don't even know that you can even draw on the computer, much less use Photoshop to do it. Because of this, my senior project is based on the differences between traditional and digital art, and why digital art should be taught at our school. It should be interesting, because I have to teach the Art Studio classes for a week or so, and I have no idea how I'm going to go about it. Especially if the only tools we have are laptops. (Has anyone tried drawing on the computer with a laptop mouse? Practically downright impossible, I tell you.)
Oh, crap. I didn't realize this was gonna take so long. My 6-page research paper for said senior project is due today and I was supposed to use my free time to do it. *facepalm*
Well, I'm screwed. lol.
On a side note, it's Kataang Week! I have an idea for a fanart/fanfic...but both are sort of kicking my butt right now. School is kicking my butt too. Which sucks.
Happy Kataang Week! ^__^
